On August 20th, the China Silicon Industry Association released the latest silicon wafer prices, showing a sharp week‑on‑week increase.
- N‑type G10L monocrystalline silicon wafer (182*183.75 mm / 130 μm): average transaction price at ¥1.12 per piece, rising sharply by 40.00% week‑on‑week
- N‑type G12R monocrystalline silicon wafer (182*210 mm / 130 μm): average transaction price at ¥1.14 per piece, up 26.67% week‑on‑week
- N‑type G12 monocrystalline silicon wafer (210*210 mm / 130 μm): average transaction price at ¥1.22 per piece, climbing 10.91% week‑on‑week
Driven by surging market demand together with the “buy‑on‑rise” market sentiment, tight short‑term supply has pushed prices higher. Notably, 183‑size wafers are mainly supplied to overseas markets, while demand for 210R and 210N‑size wafers is more domestically‑oriented. As a result, 183‑size wafers saw far stronger price growth this week than the other two products.
We estimate that this price hike will pass down to downstream terminals in late August, and PV modules may face a new round of price increases.
